Oh, the Monday after the holidays. If you’re decompressing from a little bit too much (food, friends, libations) this day can be a bit sleepy. Have no fear, this remixed track has full vocals matched with the invigorating yet mellow atmosphere created by Røse. You got this!

Mashup Monday: November 30th
The Monday after Thanksgiving is a real struggle. Typically the last 4-5 days has involved indulgent celebrations involving libations and less sleep. If you’re in need of a funky beat to cut through your tryptophan haze, look no further than the Manic Focus remix of a classic Tracy Chapman track. Show Monday who’s boss, you got this!
Mashup Monday: October 19th

Everyone has certain artists that bring them back to different moments in life. Memories accompanied by the soundtrack of the time, whether it be happy or melancholy, makes for powerful flashbacks. One group whose melodies and lyrics were on repeat for many weeks for me this last year was MS MR. In honor of their show at the Crystal Ballroom this week in Portland, today’s mashup Monday is a great track produced by Goldroom (another fave). I’m always in search of a great remix of the duo and Goldroom does a great job with the combination of mellow guitar riffs and remastered vocals to still evoke the original, but incorporate an additional dimension. Can’t wait to be atop the floating dance floor of the Crystal to witness the duo first hand.
Mashup Monday: September 14th
I’ve been loving this smooth and upbeat filous remix of “Heatwave” by Hollow Coves. It’s a great track for the transition to late summer to early fall. The mix is the perfect combination of clear vocals, peaceful guitar and cheerful rhythm. All the mixes I’ve heard by filous remind me of a velvety sun soaked dream. What more could you ask for?
Mashup Monday: July 27th
I’m a little late to the James Supercave party, but all it took was one listen to the hit “Robot” for me to get hooked on the psychedelic pop group from California. I’m currently loving remix of the single by The Hit City U.S.A. Take a lil listen and see for yourself!
The 5 Most Important Apps Every Music Junkie Needs Right Now
Someone once told a musician friend of mine that he should stop listening to music so much, that he’d probably get sick of it. If this comment makes you cringe, and want to roll your eyes at the same time, you are a certifiable music junkie.
Is it impossible for you to imagine working out, making dinner, or commuting to work without tunes? Is most of your phone storage taken up by your iTunes and Spotify libraries? Do you consider concerts and festivals as one of your top expenditures? Then these five essential music apps are for you.
Bandsintown
Never miss a show again! Bandsintown is a great app that downloads your song library and alerts you whenever one of your artists announces a show in your area. You can also scan recommended shows, and all shows, for each given night in your city. This app is perfect for when you’re traveling, too. Just simply change your location to see what gig you might be able to catch that night. If you’re interested in a gig, you can buy tickets directly from the app, as well. You can also share your RSVP’s with your social networks so your friends will get #fomo and want to join you.
HypeMachine
If you’re the one constantly perusing music blogs for fresh new tracks, this is the perfect app for you. HypeMachine lets you select your favorite music blogs and music genres and each time a new track is posted, it will go straight to your feed. You can then listen to all the new songs in one place instead of going to ten different sites.
Genius
Music is more than just the beats. We’re often listening for the sentiment in the lyrics, but sometimes we can’t quite catch what the artist is saying. (Remember when everyone thought Taylor Swift was giving a big shout out to Starbucks in her song “Blank Space”?) Genius is an awesome app that uses the same technology as Shazam. This techonogy allows you to simply hold your phone to the speaker, and it recognizes the song that is playing. You can then study the song lyrics to be sure you have all of the words down in your favorite Weezy monologue.
Countdown Apps
While this isn’t a strictly music focused app, every concert and festival go-er needs a countdown app. With a countdown app you can put all of your upcoming shows and festivals into one place so you can start planning your travel and outfits. It also serves as a great inspiration for whenever you might be having an off day. Just take a look at the exciting things you have coming up to help you get through that stressful afternoon. My personal favorite countdown app is Dreamdays for its ease of use and design.
ReverbNation
The most hardcore music-lovers of the world are musicians. Musicians take their obsession to the next level and actually learn to sing or play an instrument (Go you!). If you’re an aspiring artist looking to break into the industry, ReverbNation is a great resource. The technology allows you to publish content to various social channels, advertise on music websites, and connect with promoters to find a venue to play.
Mashup Monday: July 6th
As we come back from a 3-day weekend full of stars, stripes, and explosions, Mondays can be a bit of a let down. To keep spirits high, here’s not just one, but a whole mixtape of mashups. I love unlikely pairings, and Frank Sinatra and Notorious B.I.G. seem like polar opposites. Tommy Maples expertly mixes an entire line up of tracks in the “Blue Eyes Meets Biggie” mashup.
Mashup Monday: January 12th
The White Panda duo creates some of the best mashups blending new and old, and always danceable. They released this Ginuwine // Feki mix today, and it’s the perfect combo of a classic R&B jam with some modern accents.
Mashup Monday: January 5th
It’s back to reality here, and whether you’re back at it on the daily work or school grind, a little afternoon audio pick-me-up is definitely necessary. I’m always down for a little Chashmere Cat, and love this remix of Miguel’s “Do You.” Happy New Year!
